How Dirty Filters Affect AC Units

You need your air conditioning in Corpus Christi, TX. When it suddenly drops out on you, it can be a real problem. But before you go seeking more intensive and costly repairs, you should check on the state of your air conditioner’s filter.

How Often Should I Change My Filter?

How often you need to change your air filter will depend on the specific conditions within your home or business such as the level of traffic, if there are any pets, the type of work that is being conducted in the business, etc. It will also depend on the type of filter you have. Typically as a general rule of thumb we recommend replacing 1 inch filters monthly; however, you will need to monitor the levels of dirt and dust that accumulates on the filter. If you see more dirt or dust than normal then replace your filters more frequently.

In some homes, filters can be cleaned, rather than getting replaced entirely. If your home has one of these filters, make sure to check the manufacturer’s instructions for the base cleaning schedule. As noted above, households that have greater exposure to contaminants like dust and dander may need to clean their filters more regularly.

If your System was installed by Logicool Air Solutions you more than likely have a Media Air Cleaner which consists of a Filter Cabinet that holds a Filter that is 4.5 to 5 inches thick. These filters are much more effective at Filtration while still allowing the system to breathe properly due to the greater amount of surface area the filter has. As a general rule of thumb for these Filters we recommend replacing these Filters every 5 to 6 months.

If you are interested in having one of these higher quality filters installed on your system give us a call. Oftentimes we can add a Media Air Cleaner to your existing system.

What Happens When Filters Aren’t Changed Regularly?
Letting dust and debris pile up can be disastrous for your AC and your home or business. Excess build-up can clog the blower, which will affect your unit’s performance and restrict overall airflow. This will also damage your unit in the long run.

Once enough dirt and debris get clogged in your ducts, it can lower the overall air quality in your home. If you have people in your household who have allergies or other respiratory illnesses, this is something you definitely need to avoid.

Getting your air conditioner filter replaced is just part of owning an AC unit. If you neglect its care, your system will likely break down just when you need it most. But where can you go for reliable air conditioner maintenance?
